Itto-bori Carving(Nara Doll)
別名奈良人形ともいい、鎌倉時代、春日大社若宮の祭礼に用いられたのが始まりで、江戸末期巨匠森川杜園(文政3年~明治27年)によって一躍芸術品の域までその技術・風格が高められて今日に至っています。題材は能楽・舞楽・狂言・鹿・十二支等で単純明快、大きな刀法の上に繊細・華麗な極彩色を施したところが特徴であります。
Nara Ittobori Dolls are featured harmoniously with elaborate edges and planes using a special fine chisel along with colorfully painted delicate and gorgeous designs.
The Dolls have various types of motifs : the Twelve Chinese Zodiac Signs, Noh Drama Dolls,Hina Dolls for Girls’Day, and Gogatsu/May Dolls for Boys’ Day.
They are enhanced daily with new designs based on tradition.
